The trouble with us,
Is we don’t let anyone know,
What’s going on in our heads,
Until it’s too late.
Then we run to the arms of our parents,
And shatter like glass at their feet,
The cracks of our broken souls stare back at them,
And they’re left to pick up the pieces.

They Don’t Understand
As we run hand in hand through small winding paths,
Our laughter ring and bouncing off the walls,
They stand in the shadows, watching, waiting,
They can’t understand our joy, my dear,
They don’t understand.
As you lean forward and stroke my cheek,
As I lean and kiss you swiftly, softly on the lips,
Their lips curl in utter disgust and remorse,
They can’t feelĀ our love, my dear.
They don’t understand.
As our arms wrap round each other’s body,
As we sway to music only we can hear,
They strain their ears, trying to listen,
They can’t see what we see, my dear.
They don’t understand.
As we hug each other slightly,
As you whisper sweet nothings in my ear,
Their shouts and calls will fade away to silence,
They can’t feel what we feel, my dear,
They don’t understand.
For my ex-boyfriend. We were the only ones who understood what we felt, and that was all that really mattered. Thanks for the memories x

Fire
Excited chatter as embers fly,
Dancing upwards into a gleaming sky,
Crackles and snaps of wood on fire,
Passers-by stand in awe and admire,
A rainbow of oranges, yellows and reds,
Licking flames blasting over my head.
Fire.
As Worlds Collide
And I step from the shimmering feathers of barley,
From the whispering touch of the breeze,
From the pale golden light of the crescent moon,
From the rustling branches of trees.
As I step the world behind me vanishes,
I step from leaf to grey, hard concrete,
The clean breeze is met by car exhaust fumes,
Pools of oily water swirl at my feet.
Two worlds, so close together,
Connected, yet so far apart.
Beauty and Beast, together as one,
Earth, one still, beating heart.
Moments Like These
Running side by side,
Fingers entwined,
Smiles in our eyes, happiness in our hearts,
I’ll always love,
Moments Like These.
Calm, sea spray,
Lapping at our bare feet,
Sheets of pink light falling over the waves,
I’ll never forget,
Moments Like These.
Text conversations,
Late into the night,
We never knew how to say goodbye,
I’ll treasure the memories,
Moments Like These.
Goodnight kiss,
Meaning more than words could say,
Whispered, “I Love You.”
I’ll keep it forever,
Moments Like These.
